Process Not Performance: The Biggest Health Hack

February 2026

Hello!,

George wrote an article in The Stage! It’s great. Have a read: https://www.thestage.co.uk/opinion/we-must-decolonise-actor-training-to-keep-it-relevant-george-bukhari

Workshop Updates

Manchester

George and I teamed up in February to deliver a weekend intensive on practical exercises developed from the Meisner technique. You did the Meisner technique? We did the Meisner technique. You did the Meisner technique? We did the Meisner technique.
If you know you know.
We worked on scenes from The Shape of Things by Neil LaBute and exercised our acting muscles through script analysis and application, the moment before, improvisation, repetition and hooking. As always, the aim being to help push your craft that little bit further by the end of the weekend.

*

7th/8th March will be a weekend acting for screen intensive with Apple TV and Assassin's Creed star Zora Bishop. She will guide you through her process for managing nerves and building confidence, alongside an introduction to the world of acting in video games. We have just had a cancellation so there is one space left. Get it whilst it’s hot.

London

London was a repeat (the repetition just keeps coming) of Manchester, with more Meisner technique. George and I are passionate about continually developing and updating practitioner techniques to suit current industry trends. We sometimes combine techniques, put our own spin on them, and adapt to the actors in the room. You can only grow with flexibility and reflection.

March in London - Testament Season 2!

Producer and star of Testament (Angel Studios) John Omole will be leading our 21st/22nd March weekend ahead of casting for Season 2. John has a wealth of stage and screen experience as an actor, director and teacher. You will work on scenes from Season 1 and develop your screen acting craft.

My Ideas

Biggest health hack that I would now place above all else - consistent sleep. Go to bed and wake up at the same time every night (minimum 8 hours) for a week and see how good you feel. I do 10pm-6am and hope my youngest son Ari doesn’t wake up before!

What if your ‘big thing’ this year is becoming the calm, consistent version of yourself? It could actually be the most transformative achievement of your life. Because from that person: better work will come, better leadership will come, better creativity will come and bigger opportunities will come. Don’t chase them. Attract them.

What I’m Reading: The Correspondent by Virginia Evans. Now and again, it comes. Not very often, but when it does it is wonderful. The one you can’t put down. This one is seriously good. Told entirely through letters, it is about the scope and range of life in all its tragedy and hope and grief and love. The best books encapsulate the short amount of time we have here and how fucking vital it is we grab hold of it, not it, the ones we love and squeeze so tightly and don’t make yourself regret a single word you say to them. Or if you do, repair it with all the love and care in the world until they forgive you. I think of my family and children when I read something like this and I just want to squeeze them. To protect them from all there is. It is both beautiful and frightening that I can’t. But that’s life. Read it.

What I’m Watching: Knight of the Seven Kingdoms on Sky Atlantic. SO GOOD.

Insights

*

Ryan Holliday on taking care of your body:

“Taking care of yourself physically is setting yourself up to thrive emotionally and temperamentally.”

**

Alfred Simon on the revelation of character in three distinct phases:

“The Mask conceals the face, but in turn the face conceals the soul, and the soul conceals itself. The universe of theatre, like the theatre of life, then becomes a vast play of masks which the contemplator cannot accept as such. He must rip away these disguises.”

***

“When someone treats you poorly, it is a reflection of him or herself and the misery within the heart of them.”

- from the book The Correspondent by Virginia Evans
