Workshop Updates
Manchester
We are BACK! The legend that is Isher Sahota joined myself and George in Manchester for our first in-person workshop following our summer break. It was incredibly useful for him and (we hope) incredibly useful for the actors who attended too. It was the first time that Isher’s feature film in development was read and rehearsed by actors. Alongside George’s usual work on the pitch, I worked on status exercises for screen and we introduced the playing of multiple objectives through uniting. Classes with Isher were all about the script, with analysis, character work and scene rehearsals.

October in Manchester will be a 360 overview of the casting process and audition technique with George and Sheraz Ahmed CDG(Happy Valley, Time, Hardacres, All Creatures Great and Small, The Feud), who will be leading both days. George’s focus will be on the work of Katie Mitchell and applying her technique to text. We have just had a cancellation so there is one space left - book it using the link below.

Our final workshop in Manchester for 2025 (we will be back in January 2026!) will be with George and TV Director Lloyd-Eyre Morgan. We are buzzing to welcome Lloyd back to CMA. Official invites will be going out soon but if you want to get in early, please do. End of year drinks will be happening too! Booking link below.

London
Whilst I swanned off to Center Parcs with my family for the weekend, George and Isher repeated the brilliant work from Manchester in London. It was lovely to see so many familiar faces returning and to welcome some new actors. Isher was delighted to be able to bring his script to London and work on it for a second weekend running.

October in London will be a screen acting intensive with me and camera operator Bianca Jechianu. She is a recent graduate in Film and has worked in the technical department at the University of East London for three years. We will be exploring power and status on camera through stillness, subtlety, and non-verbal reactions.

Our final workshop of 2025 in London (back in January 2026!) will also be with Lloyd-Eyre Morgan. He is an award-winning writer and director for film and television. His debut feature film Departures has been nominated for Best Comedy at the National Film Awards 2025 and was selected as a festival favorite at BFI Flare 2025. Lloyd is going places - and is always on the lookout for new actors to work with.
We will also be hosting Christmas drinks! Acting and booze. Is there anything better?

The CMA 360: From All Angles will be happening every Wednesday evening in November on Zoom. One masterclass per week. An actor, a director, a casting director and an agent. The wait list is building before booking opens very soon - register your interest below for free.
My Ideas
*
Self-tape hack: lower your voice. On screen, the microphone picks up everything, even if using your phone to record. Do not pitch your voice as if you are on stage. Lower it. See what happens.
**
Book recommendation: Meditations for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman. The art of embracing our finite lives and living for the now.
***
Choose certain things that you do in life and train your brain to send you instant reminders to stay present for them. Choose things that you do regularly where you find your mind wandering or you reach for your phone. Mine are reading books to my son, walking from my car to work, and training at the gym.

Mark your calendars, block out your schedules, January-June 2026 dates are now up on the website. As the industry recovers…make sure you are ready.
Insights
*
Mary Randolph Carter on keeping a clean house:
“A perfectly kept house is the sign of a misspent life.”
**
Oliver Burkeman on distractions:
“Going through life with a rigid commitment to the elimination of interruption and distraction might seem like a way to stay more absorbed in what’s happening. Yet in fact it pulls you out of it, by undermining your capacity to respond to reality as it actually unfolds - to seize unexpected opportunities and to be seized by an awe-inspiring landscape or fascinating conversation; to let your mind take an unplanned journey into fertile creative territory, or to find enjoyment, as opposed to annoyance, in a small child bursting into your study, while fulfilling your obligations as a parent.”
From my book recommendation, Meditation for Mortals.
***
Shane Parrish on the greatest gift:
“The gift with the highest return: believing in someone before they believe in themselves.”
CMA Actor Spotlight
Huge congratulations to our London regular Habib Guabintani, who will be shooting a US feature film in Italy and Greece over the next few months, alongside his usual role in the French TV show he stars in. We will miss you at the workshops, Habib!
